It’s a Heatwave Y’all: Calls For Relaxed Work Dress Codes

Air conditioning and the UK are not two things that normally go together - it’s as if we’re not used to the warmth of summer.

If we could only go back to the good old days of primary school and change into a breezy summer uniform as soon as the weather hits 19.

So due to the effect this latest heatwave could have on employees in the workplace, the Trades Union Congress (TUC) has called for work dress codes to be loosened.

Frances O’Grady, the TUC General Secretary was reported by Portsmouth News saying: ‘It’s no fun working in a baking office or factory and employers should do all they can to take the temperature down.

‘Clearly vest tops and shorts are not suitable attire for all front line staff, but those not dealing with the public should be able to discard their tights, ties and suits.

‘Extreme heat can be as unpleasant to work in as extreme cold, and so long as the UK has no legal maximum working temperature, many workers will be working in conditions that are not just personally unpleasant, but will also be affecting their productivity.’

Will Hawaiian shirts be allowed? Please let this be the case.
