The A14 Westbound near Cambridgeshire was closed this morning (May 24) due to overrunning roadworks. The incident was reported to have taken place at around 6am.

The closure was in place between Junction 24B in Swavesey and Junction 21 in Huntingdon. Heavy traffic was on the roads, with congestion all the way up to J25 in Bar Hill.

National Highways said this was due to the works going beyond their pre-agreed end time of 5am. Motorists were advised to plan their journeys accordingly if travelling in these areas.

They added: "The A14 in Cambridgeshire is closed westbound between J24B Swavesey and J21 Huntingdon for planned roadworks which have overrun their pre-agreed end time of 05:00. We expect the road to be re-opened within the hour. Thank you for your patience."

Queues started to ease on the road at around 7am, with the closure going down to one lane. This eventually reopened shortly after with traffic conditions soon returning to normal.
