Helen Flanagan has revealed her toddler son had to be rushed to hospital in an ambulance after breaking his collarbone in a "horrendous" fall at Alton Towers.

The former Coronation Street star was visiting the theme park's CBeebies Land with her three young children when Charlie, who is 22-months-old, took a tumble.

An ambulance was called and they ended up spending six hours in hospital, where Flanagan was told he had "snapped" his collarbone.

Opening up on Instagram, she said it was "awful".

"I took all three on my own and it was fine and loved it and my friend who helps me with the kids, she just came to meet me during the day and then we went to the water park," said the 32-year-old.

"To cut a long story short, Charlie slipped, and he slipped really really badly and it was awful, it was absolutely horrendous and I had to get an ambulance and he had snapped his collarbone into two," she went on.

"It was horrendous, so I spent like six hours in the hospital at Stoke."

The actor - who is best known for playing Rosie Webster on the cobbles - thanked the paramedics and all the medical staff who helped, saying they were "amazing".

"That was awful, it's horrible, horrible, horrible to hear your child in pain," she said.

"It's just horrendous but he's OK.

"There's actually not much you can do for it. Apparently, it mends by itself but it's just horrible when you're a mum and you just wish you could take every pain away from them."

Flanagan shares son Charlie and daughters Matilda, seven, and Delilah, four, with footballer Scott Sinclair.

The pair got together in 2009 but late last year there were reports that they had split.
