Hellboy reboot: First look at Stranger Things' David Harbour in character

The Hellboy reboot has had a bumpy ride to screens.

Guillermo del Toro has long been aching to make a third instalment of his own take on the franchise, but those plans ultimately fell through, opening the way for a rebooted take on the comics with Stranger Things' David Harbour in the titular role.

Those plans took an unpleasant turn when Ed Skrein was cast as Major Ben Daimio, who's Japanese-American in the comics; however, Skrein was widely praised for then backing out of the role when he discovered it was being whitewashed, with Daniel Dae Kim coming on board to replace him.

Hellboy's now back to business, and we've got our very first look at David Harbour in character, looking just as ripped straight out of the comics as Ron Perlman's version.

Indeed, considering how visually distinctive the world of Hellboy is, it'll be interesting to see what efforts the reboot actually makes to distinguish itself from Guillermo del Toro's films.

Neil Marshall — best known for directing horror film The Descent, along with various episodes for Game of Thrones, Westworld, and Hannibal — will helm the upcoming film, currently titled Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen.
