Theresa May has finished her closing speech at the Tory Conference in Manchester, and it’s quite the understatement to say that it didn’t go to plan.

After starting relatively smoothly, the speech was quickly derailed by comedian Simon Brodkin, who made his way on stage to hand Theresa May with a mock P45.

It soon went downhill even more, with her voice appearing to falter on several occasions – prompting Philip Hammond to hand her a cough sweet.

Still, one person’s pain is another’s pleasure, and Twitter wasted no time in producing some absolute golden responses to speech.

Like this reaction to Boris Johnson’s apparent refusal to stand up and applaud.

Throughout the speech, she repeatedly used the phrase ‘The British Dream’, and it was ripe for parody.

And just when Theresa May thought that her nightmare was over, it got even worse – with a series of letters appearing to fall off the walls behind her.

We expect that Theresa May will be pretty glad that the speech is finally over. Now, will someone PLEASE fetch her a glass of water.
