If often seems like you CAN’T win arguments online – with many online commenters completely irrational, insanely rude and obsessed with the Nazis.

But there might be a trick to winning arguments – even the ones it seems you can’t win, like debates about Brexit or Donald Trump.

The trick is agreeing with people – in fact, agreeing with them so much that they see the absurdity of their views.

Israeli research this week dealt with a highly controversial subject – arguments over the Israel-Palestine conflict, with 150 Israelis debating the subject.

Half of the volunteers were shown a video which argued that the war should continue – simplyl because the Israeli people have deeply held morals, and the war is consistent with those, according to Ask Men.

The idea was to ‘raise a sense of absurdity but not defences.’

Professor Eran Halperin, of the Interdisciplinary Center in Herzliya, Israel, said, ‘The fact that they are the most moral society in the world is one of the most basic beliefs of Israeli society.

‘You take people’s most basic beliefs and turn them into something that is absurd. For an outsider, it can sound like a joke, but for them, you are playing with their most fundamental belief.’
