Here's proof that lovebirds Joaquin Phoenix and Rooney Mara are going strong

We’ve long ago learned that you can’t fully believe everything Joaquin Phoenix says (see: I’m Still Here), but pictures don’t lie. And this one — of Phoenix, 43, and girlfriend Rooney Mara, 32, coupled up in L.A. — means that the perfectly matched odd couple is still going strong one year later.

The Mary Magdalene co-stars were snapped together Saturday at a mall in Sherman Oaks, Calif. From the looks of his bag and earbuds, they had hit up an Apple store. And from the look on his face, he’s clearly stoked about his new purchase.

Their matching sneakers — her high-top Converse to his low-tops — pretty much say everything else that needs to be said.

We first heard rumblings of a romance between them in January 2017 after they connected on the set of the biblical movie. (She plays the saint; he plays Jesus.) When they returned to the U.S., they were photographed leaving a California detox spa together, which is just so Hollywood, and word got out that they were an item.

The couple, who previously worked together in the film Her, have been official since the Cannes Film Festival last May. They attended the closing-night ceremony together (he wore his black Cons), and they embraced when he went up to collect his Best Actor award for You Were Never Really Here. In an interview with the New York Times in September, Phoenix revealed that he and Mara live together in the Hollywood Hills.

With a closet full of his and hers Converses, we’re sure.
