Here's why four men were arrested in an Island town

POLICE have arrested four men suspected of rogue trading in an Isle of Wight town.

The men were detained by officers of the West Wight Neighbourhood Team and District Policing Team in East Cowes yesterday (Friday).

It is alleged the men were "starting work without agreeing a price, providing a contract or allowing a cooling off period."

"We are aware rogue traders can be very persuasive and convincing in their approach, but remember having your roof cleaned is not an emergency, so do not be taken in," said a Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary spokesperson.

Police also advise the public, if approached by traders, to ask for a contract and make use of the cooling off period.

"We believe further people may have been approached by traders in the East Cowes area," the police added.

"If you believe you have been scammed and not already been approached by police, then please report the offences to Isle of Wight Trading Standards on 823000.
