The hidden rooftop bar on Humber Street perfect for this summer

With it looking like summer is finally here with the last few days hitting 20 degrees, many people are using their off time to flock to beer gardens to catch some rays and cool down with a cold one.

Even though it is one of the most popular areas in Hull, there is a little-known rooftop bar at the heart of Humber Street with views of The Deep, The River Humber and Hull City Centre.

Hull Live went to visit the Humber Street Gallery to visit the secret spot.

Considering that the contemporary Humber Street Gallery opened its rooftop bar in 2017, I'm quite astonished that more people are unaware of its existence. I've often felt that there is a distinct shortage of places that have an accessible roof to gaze at Hull's somewhat underrated skyline with a mix of post-war and Victorian buildings.

It's not often you go on an educational wander at mind-provoking art, that the first thing you experience is a cafe bar, which helps Humber Street Gallery stand out. I ask the person behind the counter if the roof's open, and I'm politely told just to head on up.

The building is three storeys tall, with an accessible vintage-looking lift for those who are unable to use the stairwell. There's a good number of benches and seating up top, as well as a sheltered bar. Although the bar wasn't open at this point, anything bought from the counter in the foyer could be brought up. At a quite muggy 22 degrees, the uninterrupted breeze was pleasant.

From the top, you could see a new perspective of Hull. The bustling Humber Street down below, the Marina in all its glory, The Deep up close and personal. Further into the distance, the unmistakable green from the Maritime Museum, Hull Minster towering over the skyline and The Humber Bridge to the west standing over the Humber.

The Humber Street Cafe bar and rooftop is open Wednesday 10:30 am - 5 pm, Thursday 12 pm - 7 pm, Friday - Sunday 10:30 am - 5 pm.
