High winds lashed parts of Japan as Typhoon Soulik approached on Tuesday, August 21.
The typhoon hit the islands of Amami Oshima and Kyushu, the Japanese newspaper Asahi Shimbun reported.
Gusts of up to 216 km/h (134 mph) were forecast for the islands, Kyodo reported.
