Plot details for Season 2 are still being kept under wraps but filming is already underway.

Originally intended as a standalone limited series, the first season of the show, which was created by George Kay and Jim Field Smith was a breakout hit for Apple TV+, becoming one of the streamer’s most-watched dramas and spawning a number of imitators. Field Smith will once again direct Season 2 while Guy Bolton serves as lead writer.

Told almost in real-time across seven episodes, the first season of “Hijack” followed negotiator Nelson as he finds himself trying to thwart a hijacking plot while flying from Dubai to London. Archie Panjabi, Christine Adams, Max Beesley and Ben Miles all starred.

Even before the first season dropped Elba told Variety he was open to returning as Nelson if he could find the right story. “I’m open to that character coming back. I think if people were compelled to like the character, then I’m in,” Elba said. “But it’s kind of like — he’s not a cop [so] what would be the acceptable Sam Nelson return? And if I’m honest, I’m not sure. I’d like that, but I just don’t want to put him on another hijack.”

Jamie Laurenson, Hakan Kousetta and Tom Nash at 60Forty Films are also returning as exec producers alongside alongside Kay and Field Smith, with Field Smith’s own production company Idiotlamp Productions.
