Hilary Duff is proving that it’s always good to have a backup plan.

On Sunday, the actress gave followers a glimpse into the workings of her kitchen, when she shared a simple dinner she made on her Instagram Story after a near tragedy earlier in the night.

Duff’s husband, musician Matthew Koma shared a sushi rice bowl featuring white rice topped with seaweed flakes and generous helpings of ikura (salmon roe), toro (fatty tuna) and uni (sea urchin). He tagged Duff in the post.

The actress reshared the Story to her own, proudly stating that she was responsible for making the bountiful sushi bowl composed of mostly raw fish.

“Thank God because 45 minutes before I did this…” she writes in her story, teasing another that shows a sheet tray with some pieces of blackened and charred broccoli.

“Almost burnt our house down,” she confesses in her story.

On Sept. 28, Duff celebrated her 36th birthday. In a heartfelt tribute post shared to Instagram on Duff’s birthday, Koma, 36, shared a few of his favorite things about the How I Met Your Father actress.

“To my birthday girl @hilaryduff …It’s wild to think this first photo of us was taken almost ten years ago,” he captioned a carousel of images that included a picture of Duff posing with Ed Sheeran. “I remember it so vividly, it’s almost like we didn’t break up three times between then and now.”

Koma continued, “You blow me away everyday with your ability to juggle the un-juggle-able… you do it with such ease & grace. You have an endless well of energy and patience that makes you the super-mom + super-wife you are, all while bringing your wildest dreams to earth level, then still somehow giving a s--- about our dogs at the end of the day.”

“Thank you for loving us ba, we love you back so much. Happy happy happy birthday,” he concluded, before joking, “We’re the luckiest and our kids are gonna be so stoked when they find out Ed Sheeran is their real dad.”

Koma also shared a hilarious photo on his Instagram Story of the birthday card the couple's daughter Banks, 4, picked out for the actress. The card featured a white birthday cake with rainbow sprinkles that read "Happy Birthday Dickhead" in red icing.

"Banks picked this out by herself for @hilaryduff. She can't read yet," Koma wrote across the picture.
