Hillsborough: Minute's Silence On Anniversary

All professional football matches in England kicked off seven minutes late on Saturday to mark the 25th anniversary of the Hillsborough disaster.

A total of 96 Liverpool fans lost their lives as a result of a crush during an FA Cup semi-final against Nottingham Forest.

As a mark of respect, games started late and were preceded by a minute's silence at the same time as the tie was called off on April 15, 1989 - 3.06pm.

Other events are due to take place in the coming few days, culminating in a religious service on Tuesday - the actual anniversary of the tragedy.

New inquests into the victims' deaths have recently begun after the original coroner's verdicts were quashed in 2012.

Many fans and their families say they will not be content until the full story about what happened on that day is brought into the open.

Liverpool team members at the time said they were deeply affected by what had happened.

Kenny Dalglish, then Liverpool manager, said afterwards: "All the funerals were harrowing. All those families mourning the loss of their loved ones.

"Most of the church services finished with (the Liverpool anthem) You'll Never Walk Alone. I couldn't sing through any of the songs or hymns. I was too choked up."

Both of this weekend's FA Cup semi-finals will also feature the delay and minute's silence.

Liverpool are playing Manchester City on Sunday, with a kick off time of 1.37pm.
