Historic Bath hotel overlooking Parade Gardens closes for year-long refurbishment

A historic hotel in Bath has closed its doors for a year while it undergoes a full refurbishment and rebrand. Parade Park Hotel, a Grade I listed property overlooking the Parade Gardens, is being redeveloped by asset manager Fairtree.

The company obtained the necessary permits from Bath and North East Somerset Council and listed building consent for the rebrand.

The hotel was constructed around 1740 and originally spanned three houses and connected under the road to Parade Gardens. The buildings served as lodging houses from the 1750s for 170 years before being converted into a single large hotel in 1997.

Parade Park Hotel is expected to reopen in summer 2025. The comprehensive makeover will include updated interiors, improved facilities, and new state-of-the-art amenities, Fairtree said.

CC Nel, director of developments at Fairtree Capital Europe, is overseeing the project. He said: “With the necessary approvals in place, we are now poised to move forward with the next phase of the project. We will be obtaining tenders to commence the transformation of Parade Park Hotel into a distinguished and iconic destination in Bath. This redevelopment will enhance the city's hospitality offerings and contribute to Bath's cultural and architectural heritage.

Architects Spratley & Partners advised on the project and provided designs, while heritage consultants Harrison Brookes also provided guidance.

Interior architecture firm SpaceBrand designed the aesthetic and functional elements of the hotel's interiors, while Providence Hotels is Fairtree's preferred hospitality management partner.
