Hoda Kotb Reveals What She Currently Has 'Space' for When It Comes to Her Dating Life (Exclusive)
The 'Today' anchor, who is celebrating hosting her 50th guest on her 'Making Space' podcast, tells PEOPLE what she currently values in her dating life
Hoda Kotb has her priorities set when it comes to her dating life.
While celebrating hosting her milestone 50th guest on her Making Space podcast, the Today anchor opens up to PEOPLE exclusively about what is currently important to her while navigating today's dating world.
"It's so funny because everyone's got their skin in the game. A friend asked me, 'What do you have room for?' Which is a very important question to ask yourself when you're looking for whatever it is," Kotb, 59, recalls. "She goes, 'Truthfully, if you could have anything, what would you have space for?' And I said, 'I have space for a Thursday night date.' She says, 'Then that's what you should look for.' In other words, don't seek out."
Kotb announced her breakup from ex Joel Schiffman in January 2022 after eight years together. As the pair continue to co-parent their daughters Hope, 4, and Haley, 7, some of her Today colleagues offered to help her find a new potential partner.
Despite expressing interest in getting back out there, Kotb finds her friend's advice on determining what she has space for to be "very interesting."
"Sometimes you're looking for something that you don't have space for at this point, because, you know, I'm totally occupied with my kids and running around with work and all the things. Where's the time?" she says.
"But then, all of a sudden, she said that and that made it clearer to me," she adds. "I'm like, 'Oh, so that's what I want. That's what I want. I want a Thursday night date.' So I do that."
The idea of making space for what is most important is something Kotb is all too familiar with. Her podcast, aptly titled Making Space with Hoda Kotb, is all about exploration and self-discovery, featuring all-star guests like Viola Davis and Céline Dion sharing their own experiences.
This week, the podcast welcomed Grammy-winning country music star Lainey Wilson as its milestone 50th guest.
Kotb says the singer's perseverance "a common thread with most of our guests." However, throughout working on the project, the famed broadcaster says she has "learned so much about the power of falling down and getting up."
"I've learned to just feel more comfortable in my own skin, and realized life's about the joy," she adds. "Life's not about that grind. Life's about the interactions. ... I try to see life like that."
