He then revealed it was a piece of the moon, which Willoughby was allowed to hold thanks to the Space Centre in Leicester.

“I can’t believe it… thank you,” said the star.

“Look! I have the moon in my hand. That’s amazing. It almost has, like, a green rainbow in there.”

“I can’t think of a more incredible gift,” she added.

A tiny piece of Mars was also brought in and Willoughby and Schofield both had a go of touching it.

“That was really special,” the star said.

The ITV programme had laid on a special cocktail segment to mark Willoughby’s big day too.

It saw a mixologist whipping up a drink called ‘The Willoughby’ with all the star’s favourite ingredients, including tequila, fresh lemon, champagne and rhubarb cordial.

Schofield, who has just returned to the This Morning sofa after having COVID-19, said that while he had been in isolation he had been called and asked about what Willoughby would like in a cocktail.

Willoughby replied: “I’m definitely better at drinking them than making them… but that is so nice, thank you.”

The presenter also posted a picture of herself on set on Instagram, as she thanked the programme for marking her special day.
