Holly Willoughby stunned as she is offered role in 'Midsomer Murders'

Holly Willoughby was stunned as she was offered a role on Midsomer Murders, and joked that she’d have to be killed off quickly as she’s so bad at acting.

The presenter is a huge fan of the murder mystery series and was surprised with the offer of a guest part as she hosted This Morning.

Her co-presenter Phillip Schofield was in on the secret, and during an interview with Midsomer Murders actors Neil Dudgeon and Nick Hendrix, he teased that there was something Willoughby didn’t know.

Dudgeon, who plays DCI John Barnaby, then revealed there had been a discussion about guest stars and that they wanted Willoughby to appear in an episode “very soon”.

Willoughby looked stunned and exclaimed: “That’s amazing!

“Yes! Of course, I say yes.

"I have seen every single episode since it started way back when. Are you serious?”

“Oh guys!” the visibly moved star went on, clutching her hand to her chest.

But she warned the actors: “I mean, you are going to have to kill me off really quickly because I am terrible at acting. I don’t know what I am going to do!”

“That’s never held us back in Midsomer,” joked Dudgeon, and Hendrix - who plays DS Jamie Winter - quipped: “Neil has been doing it for 10 years!”

Willoughby suggested it might be best if she just walked through the back of a scene but Dudgeon said she should have a “more substantial” role.

Willoughby then added: “If you kill me, can I die by eating chocolate because I saw an episode where someone died from eating chocolate and I thought, ‘That is the way to go’.”

Crime drama Midsomer Murders started in 1997 and so far has run for 21 series.
