Hollyoaks' Juliet Nightingale is facing some terrible news in her cancer storyline.

In tonight's (January 19) episode, Niamh Blackshaw's character was still in denial about her latest rest result.

At the hospital, she lied to her ex-fiancée Peri Lomax (Ruby O'Donnell), saying that she was doing fine.

"The doctor says the treatment's working," Juliet told Peri, who immediately hugged her.

As Peri held her, tears were streaming down Juliet's face.

In recent scenes, Juliet learnt that her Hodgkin's lymphoma was more aggressive than doctors thought and was not responding to treatment.

Juliet tried to take her mind off her illness by going to Prince McQueen's (Malique Thompson-Dwyer) housewarming party with Peri. There, Juliet flirted with newcomer Rayne (Jemma Donovan) and drowned her sorrows in alcohol.

"I've just been told I have the entire rest of my life to live so I'm not going to waste it," she told Peri.

Encouraged by her friends, Juliet drank a little too much, ending up drunk as a worried Peri watched on.

Hours later, Peri and Juliet's ex Nadira (Ashling O'Shea) shared their worries over Juliet's heavy drinking.

When Juliet brushed off their concerns moments after, Nadira told her ex she had had enough to drink, with Peri also insisting she should "take it easy".

"Look at you two, finally agreeing," Juliet mocked them.

"Your treatment may be working, but you've still got cancer," Peri warned her, prompting an annoyed reaction.

Juliet yelled at Peri to stop babying her, adding: "I want to celebrate. I'm going to be fine."

When Peri confronted Juliet about having shouted at her, the latter left abruptly. The nurse ran after her, begging Juliet to tell her what was truly going on.

Cornered, Juliet admitted her doctor had informed her that her cancer didn't respond to the treatment. They suggested a more aggressive treatment Juliet can try, although it will involve more sessions per week and have more side effects compared to her first cycle.

"It won't be easy and I need to make you aware of the risks. I strongly suggest counselling," the doctor said in a flashback.

With such a heavy weight being lifted, Juliet broke down in tears as Peri hugged her, assuring her she would be there to help.

Hollyoaks streams first on All 4, with new episodes dropping each weekday morning. The show airs Mondays to Fridays at 6.30pm on Channel 4, and at 7pm on E4.
