Hollyoaks fans might still be recovering from Nathan Nightingale's tragic Valentine's Day death - but actor David Easter says the story is going to take some even darker turns.

Nathan suffered a horror fall in Monday's E4 first look episode after uncovering his dad Mac and girlfriend Lisa's shock affair shortly after popping the question.

But while the rest of the Nightingales are currently in the dark over the true circumstances that led to Nathan's demise, it looks like Mac's guilt will start to take its toll.

"The aftermath is deeply traumatic, both for the grief and the fact that someone might find out about what happened," David told the Metro.

"There are secrets still hidden and how and when they come out remains to be seen. We also have the funeral where Tabby comes back – which might be a lot different to what people might think. Tabby might be a little different towards Mac.

'There are lots of twists ahead and the devastation he feels sends him down a slippery slope – and a very dark path. Nathan was always there for Mac and his death will have massive repercussions.

"Mac will definitely go down a very, very dark route. Everything implodes inside and he can't cope with all of the lies he has told. The storyline is very macabre and Hollyoaks is great for doing that. There will be tough times – for Mac, for Lisa, for Marnie, for everyone."

Hollyoaks airs weeknights at 6.30pm on Channel 4, with first look screenings at 7pm on E4.
