After months of fighting for justice, Misbah didn't even get to make her arguments in court before Ali's case was finalised. And, unfortunately, justice was not served this time.

On tonight's episode of Hollyoaks (June 28), despite a relatively happy start to her day in court, Misbah was in for a very unpleasant surprise.

She had spent the night getting to know her partner Zain on a deeper level than ever before as she learned about his use of anti-depressants, and she was also happy to find out that her son's future with Nadira was still intact.

But her joy could last only so long.

As Misbah later turned up to make her way into the court, she was interrupted by a swarm of reporters blocking the door. Soon after she was shocked by the appearance of none other than Ali, who expressed that he was feeling "elated and relieved" to be "escaping the vile treatment I received in prison".

"But, most of all, vindicated," he added.

More confused than ever, Misbah turned to Verity for an explanation and it emerged that moments after the opening statements, the judge had decided to adjourn Ali's case.

"I don't even know how to say this," Verity began, before Yazz delivered the bad news – the judge had acquitted Ali before Misbah had even had a chance to fight her case.

While other women had come forward against Ali to support Misbah's claims, new evidence had emerged ahead of the trial when an old photo showing Ali on a night out with one of the accusers was posted online earlier that morning.

In the photo, Ali and the woman could be seen laughing and drinking, giving the impression that there was a relationship between Ali and the accuser.

"Which, in the opinion of the court, compromises the prosecution's version of events," added Verity bitterly.

To make matters worse, when the other accuser heard of this new development, she had a panic attack and asked to withdraw her statement.

As Misbah looked on with disgust, Ali gave his final statement to the press. But, despite his lawyer's advice, he chose to take his vindicated speech a step further and target the victims publicly.

"I will admit to some sympathy for the women who tried to destroy me. See, I am a man who saves lives every day – but all they saw was the man who broke their heart," Ali said.

"So to those jilted lovers, I say only this: After proceedings at court, my name is clear. So I have my happy ending."

After stepping away from the microphones, Ali also shared an additional warning for his accusers, adding: "And soon, I will have my revenge."

Hollyoaks now streams first on All 4, with new episodes dropping each weekday morning. The show airs Mondays to Fridays at 6.30pm on Channel 4, and at 7pm on E4.
