Hollyoaks' Robert Beck offered 'body double' services to Corrie

From Digital Spy

Hollyoaks newcomer Robert Beck has revealed that he's not afraid of hard work, as not only is he taking on the role of new character Fergus on Hollyoaks but he's also offered his occasional services to Coronation Street as a body double.

Actor Robert's casting as Fergus, an old business partner of Brad King (Tom Benedict Knight), was announced earlier this month but he has told Inside Soap that he could find himself being called up to help by Corrie too – although it will only happen if Leanne Battersby (Jane Danson) has any romantic scenes.

Robert has actually been married to Leanne star Jane in real-life since 2005 and, with the COVID-19 pandemic having forced soaps to draft in real-life partners for kissing scenes on several occasions, Robert is happy to help out with his own wife's work.

"There has been a lot of body-double kissing in the soaps during the pandemic, so I keep offering my services to Coronation Street," he said. "They're not interested, though, as I'm too bald to play Nick Tilsley! (Leanne's on-off partner, played by Ben Price).

"And Leanne might not be in the right headspace for romance right now, but I've told them that I'm here if they need me."

So, if Leanne does get to enjoy an on-screen smooch anytime soon, it's quite possible that it will actually be Hollyoaks star Robert moonlighting.

The actor also joked that Jane has absolutely no issues with him joining another soap, primarily because it keeps him busy.

"I was on a rival soap when we met!" he said, referring to his 1999 stint in Emmerdale as Gavin Ferris. "But she's over the moon. I think she's just glad that I'm getting out of the house. At least if she leaves it clean in the morning now, it will be clean when she gets home!

"She just keeps laughing at me, to be honest, because I'm now the one having to defrost my car at six in the morning so I can go to work, while she gets to have a lie in!"

It certainly sounds like Robert won't be getting many more lie-ins for a while, as Fergus is set to be in the thick of the action in Hollyoaks.

Fergus arrived in the village last week with a business opportunity for Brad, but there's another layer to their relationship too, because Fergus also shares a romantic past with Brad's partner Trish Minniver (Denise Welch). What's more, there's some serious unfinished business between Fergus and Trish...

Hollyoaks currently airs new episodes from Mondays to Fridays at 6.30pm on Channel 4, with first look screenings at 7pm on E4.
