Hollyoaks star Lysette Anthony hints Marnie will do anything to protect Juliet amid drugs plot

From Digital Spy

Hollyoaks star Lysette Anthony has teased how her character will react after finding out Juliet Quinn's drugs secret.

Juliet (Niamh Blackshaw) is one of the first teens in the village to be brought into shady Jordan Price's County Lines drug network and viewers recently saw the teen make the heartbreaking decision to continue selling drugs for Jordan after deciding against telling her family about the situation she's in.

But while Juliet's guardian Marnie (Lysette Anthony) is none the wiser about Juliet's drugs secret just yet, the soap's New Year's flashforward revealed that the County Lines plot will catch up with many in the village before the year is out – and it sounds like Marnie is willing to do whatever it takes to protect Juliet if she needs to.

"Marnie has inherited a very troubled teen and Juliet is lashing out, but what Marnie doesn't know is she's lashing out because she loves Marnie more than anything, and wants to protect her," Lysette Anthony said recently.

"Whatever state their relationship is in, there is no way that Marnie will not march down to whatever depths to protect Juliet, so watch out."

Considering Marnie has been known to go to extreme lengths to protect her loved ones in the past, we believe her.

Lysette Anthony also addressed whether one of the Nightingales could be the one inside the body bag in the flashforward episode, and weighed in on whether her on-screen family could be in danger.

"No, I won't let them!" she joked, before going on to add: "Yes, they're all very much in danger. I'd like to say 'over Marnie's dead body', but I very much enjoy being in Hollyoaks."

Speaking about the County Lines drug plot more generally, Lysette also said that she was "so impressed" the soap was exploring this storyline.

"I literally go to sleep listening to the midnight news, it's sad but it’s true, so I am aware," she explained.

"When we lived in London we lived near gang members, even in 'nice areas' you can't get away from it. I'm so impressed that we're doing this story and thrilled to be part of it because it's vital, especially for us parents."

She also admitted that she finds County Lines drug networks "terrifying", particularly as the parent to a teenage boy.

"I have a very communicative relationship with my boy – we argue about everything but over the important stuff he will talk. He tells me about things that are worrying him or things that he's seeing – the kids have got a lot on their plates," she said.

"I think the only thing you can do with a teenager is make sure that the door is always open, because if you try to police them then you will lose them," she continued.

"They seem savvier than we are – Jimmi doesn't think we can teach them anything they don't already know, but then he's glued to Hollyoaks because it's really good."

During the chat, Lysette also addressed another big part of the flashforward episode that has yet to be introduced in the current timeline, and that's Marnie's friendship with Misbah Maalik (Harvey Virdi).

"I'm really looking forward to this," Lysette said.

"We're not there yet – Misbah and Marnie are scrapping at the moment as usual, but hopefully something profound is going to happen and however bad-tempered and judgemental and impatient Marnie can be, when push comes to shove, and if someone is loyal and kind, she will give that back in spades."

Hollyoaks airs Mondays and Tuesdays at 6.30pm on Channel 4, with first-look episodes airing on E4 at 7pm. Wednesdays through Fridays on E4 will feature classic episodes called Hollyoaks Favourites.
