Home and Away brings in Sunrise host for guest appearance

Home and Away spoilers follow from Australian-pace episodes, which some UK viewers may prefer to avoid.

Sunrise star Matt Shirvington has joined the cast of long-running Australian soap, Home and Away.

The former Olympian and current co-host of the Australian breakfast show has "secretly" filmed scenes for the Summer Bay-centric show set to air "later next year" (2024), according to 7NEWS.co.au.

While it's not known who Shirvington will portray, previous Sunrise stars (such as weather presenter Sam Mac) have appeared on the show as themselves; it's possible, therefore, that the former athlete will follow suit.

Shirvington has reportedly filmed scenes in Sydney at Palm Beach.

“As a kid who grew up watching Home and Away, it was all a bit surreal to be in Summer Bay with Alf Stewart!” Shirvington told 7NEWS.com.au.

“What a fun experience," he added. "The entire cast and crew were so welcoming and generous with acting tips and advice for this novice.

“I think this will be one of those things my kids are never going to let me live down!"

Home and Away has kicked off its 2023 season finale week, which is set to air this week in Australia.

Xander Delaney came up against Summer Bay's new doctor Levi Fowler over Mackenzie Booth's deteriorating health, and Adam Rowland has hinted at a possible death in the not-so-peaceful Australian suburb's final 2023 outing.

There's also another health crisis on the horizon for Cash and Eden, and the resulting distress call to Remi ends with the latter crashing his car...

The episodes will come to the UK in 2024; the show is currently on its Christmas break on Channel 5.

Home and Away returns to Channel 5 in January. In Australia, the show airs Mondays to Thursdays at 7pm on Channel 7 and streams on 7plus.
