Homer Simpson 'inducted' into Baseball Hall of Fame
If there was ever a telly character to be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame, it was always going to be Homer J Simpson.
And, if you are old enough to remember a very famous episode of The Simpsons which featured Homer and his work buddies' softball team making it to the championships, you'll agree.

The Baseball Hall of Fame "inducted" the TV dad on Saturday (May 27) while he was there to open a Simpsons exhibit in their museum.

One tweet showed Homer holding his plaque and standing next to three baseball legends, while a follow-up tweet showed off a close-up of the award alongside a caption that welcomed the character to baseball "immortality":

The event marked the 'Homer at the Bat' episode's 25th anniversary (yes, we're old enough to remember, sob), which is often regarded as one of the best episodes of all time, thanks to its all-star cast.
Professional baseball players Roger Clemens, Wade Boggs, Jr., Steve Sax, Don Mattingly, Ozzie Smith, José Canseco, Darryl Strawberry, Ken Griffey and Mike Scioscia all lent their voices in the episode.
And, as he's never lost for words, Homer obviously had something to say about the honour too.
"My record for eating hot dogs will never be broken," he said in a prepared 'statement' (via EW). "I've been a fan for 40 years, which is how long some games take. And I can't wait for the ceremony in Canton, Ohio."

The Simpsons' executive producer Al Jean, was just as surprised as the rest of us at Homer's latest achievement.
"At the time I was even shocked that we were able to get nine current major leaguers, including three that are now in the Hall of Fame, and maybe more to come," he told the organisers.
"Everything with The Simpsons has just been so beyond my wildest dreams, and this is a great example of it."
