Hong Kong Police Bombard Protesters With Tear Gas

Police fired multiple tear gas canisters at protesters outside Hong Kong’s Wong Tai Sin Police Station on August 5, as violence broke out at a number of locations in the city during widespread strikes.

Videos from the scene also show protesters throwing projectiles at police.

The South China Morning Post reported that at least nine people were arrested in the Wong Tai Sin area and that protesters had set fires near the police compound that evening. It had been reported earlier that 82 arrests were made.

Chief Executive Carrie Lam denounced the protests as “illegal acts,” saying they risked destroying “the stability and prosperity” of Hong Kong. Credit: @LostDutchHK via Storyful
