With many people venturing to Devon and Cornwall this bank holiday Monday - and subsequent school half-term holidays - they'll no doubt be keeping their eyes to the sky to check up on the weather. Like the earlier part of this bank Holiday weekend, there will be a mixture of sunny spells, showers and heavy rain in places across the South West.

The Met Office have dubbed it a 'typical springtime mix'. Its Met Office 's deputy chief meteorologist, Dan Harris, said: "The outlook for bank holiday Monday is for brighter, cooler and breezier conditions with scattered showers for England and Wales at first, but a steady drying trend from the west is likely.

“We are keeping the weather warning situation under review, so please keep up to date with the latest warnings and forecasts from the Met Office if you have plans this bank holiday weekend.” We've compiled an hour-by-hour forecast for Devon and Cornwall below...

South West England weather forecast (Monday, May 27, to Friday, May 31)

Today: Scattered showers developing, these perhaps heavy in places but generally less numerous than on Sunday and some places remaining dry with some warm sunshine. Showery rain arriving in Cornwall later. Maximum temperature 17 °C.

Tonight: Damp and drizzly conditions with outbreaks of rain spreading east across the region tonight with extensive low cloud giving mist and murk for many and some patchy fog. Becoming humid. Minimum temperature 11 °C.

Tuesday: A murky morning for many with drizzle, mist and hill fog. Staying damp and misty in coastal areas into the afternoon but brightening up for some inland areas. Feeling humid. Maximum temperature 18 °C.

Outlook for Wednesday to Friday: Staying changeable with a mixture of cloudy periods, sunny spells and scattered showers. These heaviest and most numerous on Wednesday and Thursday. Drier by Friday. Feeling warm in the sunshine.
