HP Pavilion Chromebook now official and available today

HP has officially launched the Chromebook device that was leaked at the end of last month. Having accidentally put it up on the company's own website, HP really let the cat out of the bag. But it still had one surprise up its sleeve - rather than the rumoured 17 February release date, the HP Pavilion Chromebook is available in the US today.

Costing $329.99, the 14-inch laptop is pricier than Samsung and Acer's entry level efforts, but on a par with the Samsung Chromebook 550. It features a 16GB solid state drive, has a 1.1GHz Intel Celeron 847 processor and 2GB of RAM, and that screen has a 1366 x 768 pixel resolution.

Users get 100GB of Google Drive storage - free for two years - and, obviously, it has access to the Chrome Web Store to download applications and the like.

Ports include HDMI out, Ethernet, USB 2.0 and a headphone jack.

There's currently no word on a UK release date or price, but US customers will be able to buy it from HPDirect.com.
