Huge food festival by the sea returns this summer in time for school holidays

A huge food and drink festival with more than a 100 traders will return to Southport this summer. Offering three days of incredible food and activities, the Southport Food and Drink Festival will run from May 31 to June 2, coinciding with the May half term holidays.

Held in Victoria Park, just a stone’s throw away from the beach, the festival will feature around 130 stalls serving up delicious treats from around the world, including Caribbean cuisine, Asian dishes and traditional British fayre. Festival-goers can tuck into everything from pad thai and pizza to gourmet marshmallows and even a giant Yorkshire pudding wrap.

Around 30,000 visitors are expected to descend upon the park for the festival, which is free to attend. It will be on daily from 10am to 6pm, throughout the weekend.

Among the food stalls is Nanny Pearl’s Caribbean Street Food business, which originates from Nanny Pearl who moved to the UK as part of the Windrush generation, will also be there. Nanny’s grandson, Josh Murphy, said: “We offer Caribbean food Using recipes from my Nanny Pearl who came from St Vincent and the Grenadines as part of the Windrush Generation.

“I have added a little twist on some of the recipes, but I'm sure she wouldn't mind. Our Jerk Chicken is always popular as is the Curry Goat and our different flavour wings.”

The lineup of traders also includes: 600 Degrees Pizza, Abbey Ice Cream, Greek Traditional Souvlaki, Marleys Tacos and Spuds & Bros Ltd, along with many more. Producers from near and far will be selling goods including Lancashire Mead Company Limited, Ellesmere Honey Company and Haworths Bakery (The Real Thai Pie Co).

As well as food stalls, there will be 16 bars at the festival offering an array of beverages. Among the bars is Gangplank, which is based in a narrowboat and will serve a range of drinks, including whisky, rum and vodka.

Mo Patel, co-owner, said: “This will be the first time we showcase our range of award-winning flavoured spirits via a pop-up bar, including gin, whisky, rum, and vodka, all made with organic and locally sourced produce. “We applied for this festival due to its reputation for attracting like-minded individuals who, like us, value quality. We are keen to meet new people, share information about what we do and witness their delightful reactions after tasting our amazing spirits.”

The Black Dog Wine will serve up New Zealand and South African wines, and New Zealand gin and prosecco. Boston Shakers will have a range of cocktails and mocktails while Elite Bars will have ale from right here in Southport, as well as a Southport brewery cider. Mainstream spirits, Pimms and soft drinks will also be available.

As well as food and drink, there will be live entertainment from bands and singer-songwriters with everything from soul and swing, to jazz and pop. Meanwhile kids can have fun with inflatables, face painting and crafts.
