The largest electric truck company in the UK is moving to Brighouse.

Electra Commercial Vehicles, which develops electric and hydrogen powered commercial vehicles, is relocating from Blackburn to Calderdale and creating new jobs in the process.

Headed by Huddersfield-born chief executive Sid Sadique, the business says the new Brighouse base is more spacious and will allow the company to increase production and take on more staff. It currently employs 50 people but there are plans to take on up to 140 staff.

The new Brighouse facility will also allow for the creation of a dedicated training facility for staff and customers. A company spokesman said the business was now looking to take on extra staff.

He said: "As the company amplifies its operations, it actively seeks out talented and passionate individuals to join its expanding team."

Managing director Benjamin Smith added: "We’re constantly on the lookout for bright minds who resonate with our vision for a sustainable future powered by electric transportation. We eagerly anticipate welcoming new team members who will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of the commercial EV industry."

A spokesman told YorkshireLive: "Currently we employ around 50 staff but the new facility means we can increase production and look at hiring near 140."

Electra creates bespoke electric vehicles on various chassis including Mercedes-Benz, Iveco and Dennis Eagle. The company has worked with organisations across the UK - including local authorities - to create 'noiseless, zero-emission' commercial vehicles.
