Huge Waves Hit Coast of Wales as Storm Francis Triggers Amber Warning

Storm Francis triggered an amber weather warning for Wales and parts of central England on August 25, with winds over 70 mph recorded in places, according to the Met Office.

Video from the coastal town of Criccieth in Wales shows large waves and heavy winds battering the coast. The Met Office reported winds had reached 71 mph in nearby Aberdaron.

Many northern areas of the United Kingdom were reported to have already seen up to 20 mm (0.8 inches) of rain falling in just a few hours on the morning of August 25, with parts of Northern Ireland reporting up to 40 mm (1.6 inches) of rainfall, leading to flooding in some parts.

An amber warning indicates “the possibility of travel delays, road and rail closures, power cuts and the potential risk to life and property,” according to the Met Office website. Credit: Sarah Parry via Storyful
