Long-term Hull City transfer target Miha Zajc is leaving Fenerbahce after four years with the Istanbul giants amid ongoing interest from the Championship Tigers.

Jose Mourinho fever is currently sweeping Fenerbahce after the ex-Manchester United and Real Madrid boss took over on Sunday, but the 29-year-old Slovenian will not be swept along for the ride.

Zajc seemingly made his 123rd and final appearance for the club in the 6-0 final day victory over Istanbulspor which saw the club finish second in the Turkish Super Lig on 99 points, three adrift of winners and bitter rivals Galatasaray.

The central midfielder, who netted 20 times for Fener is under contract until next summer but has reportedly told teammates his career at the Ulker Stadium is over with another move lined up ahead of the new campaign.

City have been continually linked with a move for the former Genoa and Empoli ace, with Tigers owner Acun Ilicali expressing his admiration for the creative player.

“I am good friends with the president of Fenerbahçe and since I am a Fenerbahçe supporter, I know the players very well," Ilicali said recently. "For me, Miha Zajc is a very quality footballer, but he has to play in every game to show all his talent. Rhythm is very important in football, if you lose it, it’s hard to catch it again.

"Miha Zajc was my first target when I took over Hull City, but unfortunately, he decided to stay at Fenerbahçe. Well, a little bit luckily, because I am a Fenerbahçe supporter. We’ll see what happens in the future. If we run a project in Slovenia with domestic players, he might be interested in coming to Maribor.

"We are always interested in him in Hull too. These are players who are not noticeable at first glance but do a lot of work on the pitch. Zajc is a player who is like engine oil, making all the other players in the team more relaxed and calm. I really like that type of player."
