Hull KR trio earn England call-up as Shaun Wane prepares to hand out debuts

Three Hull KR players have been called up to the England squad for the mid-season international against France. Captain Elliot Minchella is set to make his international debut and he will be joined in camp by Mikey Lewis and Jez Litten, who both made their debuts last year.

Minchella has been rewarded for his fine form over a long period of time, with the skipper consistently one of Rovers' top performers throughout Willie Peters' time at the club. The loose forward will be hoping to stake his claim for a permanent stay in a squad that doesn't feature Victor Radley, Morgan Smithies or Morgan Knowles, who have been regularly used in the position under Wane.

Lewis features after impressing in the Test series whitewash of Tonga, with the halfback being named man of the match in the first Test, which was also his debut. He has continued to show development in his game this year. As for Litten, the hooker has played a more prominent role for Rovers this year after being given a regular starting jersey. He made his England debut last year in the same fixture.

It's an England squad featuring several new names. Former Robin Sam Wood has seen his form at Castleford Tigers rewarded while Wigan Warriors hooker Brad O’Neill, St Helens prop George Delaney and Leeds Rhinos forward James McDonnell are all included.

Wane said: “I’m pleased with the squad we’ve brought together for this mid-season international and there is a strong balance between some more experienced international players and some newer faces to the England squad.

“All of the new players who have come into the squad have impressed me with their performances in the Betfred Super League this season and have earned their spot in this England squad.

“Having travelled to face France back in 2021, we know they will offer us a stern test which is exactly what we need ahead of the two-game series against Samoa this Autumn.”
