Hull weather forecast as unusual April temperatures predicted by Met Office

We are now firmly in the spring season but the weather forecast for Hull is anything but seasonal.

The Met Office has predicted temperatures will plummet close to freezing tonight and a week of cold weather and rain showers will continue next week. Today, there is a maximum temperature of 11 °C and sunny intervals.

In its forecast for Hull and the outer villages, the forecaster reported it would be "dry with clear periods for many areas, and temperatures falling close to freezing in rural locations". Overnight, clouds from the Pennines will gradually spread eastwards and there will be a "minimum temperature of 1 °C".

On Sunday, the weather in Hull is predicted to be fairly bright and rain-free with a forecast of "cloudy changing to sunny intervals by late morning". There is a chance for some light rain and drizzle which gets more likely further to the west from Hull.

The temperatures will still be cool, expected to reach a maximum of 10 °C in the afternoon. The Met Office said temperatures are "below average" for the season with a temperature of 14°C more normal in April.

On Monday, there will be rain for most of the day in Hull. It will start raining from about 10am and, although the showers will not be particularly heavy, they will be continuous until around 10pm at night.

The Met Office said Tuesday and Wednesday will be "generally cloudy with showers", with Wednesday particularly wet. Temperatures are expected to remain below average.

Explaining the cold weather in Hull, The Met Office said the wind is coming from the north at the moment, rather than the warmer prevailing winds from the southwest. Areas on the east coast, such as Hull, are particularly prone to cold weather at this time.

In its long-range forecast up to May 3, the weather reporting service said: "This period will be dominated by high pressure to the northwest of the UK and lower pressure to the southeast over the near continent.

"The wind will probably therefore predominantly come from a northerly direction, so temperatures overall are likely to remain around or a little below average, with any warmer conditions will generally be further west - and near some eastern coasts it could feel quite cold at times."
