Penguins at ZSL London Zoo are joining in Pride celebrations with their own party next week.

The zoo is celebrating its own same-sex penuin couples, which include world-famous residents, Humboldt penguins Ronnie and Reggie, and has given them their own Pride banner with the slogan ‘Some penguins are gay, get over it’.

Ronnie and Reggie got together in 2014 and went on to adopt an egg that was abandoned by another couple, sharing parenting duties until he fledged the nest.

According to the zoo, the couple is as strong as ever and can often be found snuggled up in their nest box together.

Among the zoo’s 93 Humboldt penguins, the pair aren’t the only same-sex couple and are joined by Nadja and Zimmer and Dev and Martin and one-year-old Rainbow who hatched during Pride celebrations last year.

As the celebrations come to London next weekend, the zoo is joining in with its own event on Friday (July 5).
