Hurricane Ian Nears Pawleys Island, South Carolina
Hurricane Ian was forecast to make landfall in South Carolina as a Category 1 hurricane on Friday, September 30, bringing a life-threatening storm surge, the National Hurricane Center (NHC) warned.
Footage posted by the Pawleys Island Police Department shows conditions in South Carolina on Friday. Officials reported wind gusts over 80 mph at Winyah Bay.
Ian had made landfall as a Category 4 storm in southwest Florida before weakening as it headed eastward across the state. It restrengthened to a hurricane on Thursday and was accelerating as it took aim at the South Carolina coast, the NHC said. Credit: Pawleys Island PD via Storyful
