The husband of murdered MP Jo Cox has said the "name I will remember" from the Westminster atrocity is Pc Keith Palmer - not his knifeman killer.

Unarmed Mr Palmer was stabbed as the marauding attacker rushed through the gates to the Palace of Westminster.

Despite the efforts of paramedics and Foreign Office minister Tobias Ellwood to save the 48-year-old, he died in the shadow of the building he was dedicated to protecting.

Brendan Cox, whose wife was stabbed and shot by a right-wing extremist outside her constituency office last June, said the identity of the suspected terrorist was irrelevant.

Sharing a picture of Mr Palmer on his Twitter feed, he wrote: "I don't care about the name of the attacker.

"This is the name I will remember."

Mr Cox earlier said the assault on the country's political nerve centre would "not succeed in dividing us".

Neo-Nazi Thomas Mair received a whole-life sentence for the assassination of the Batley and Spen MP days before the EU Referendum last summer.

In a statement delivered to the Old Bailey following her killer's conviction, he did not address him by name, saying: "We have no interest in the perpetrator. We feel nothing but pity for him."
