Born and bred in Glasgow he moved down to England after he married his devoted late wife Marilyn and they celebrated their diamond wedding together in June last year shortly before unfortunately Marilyn passed away.

When he moved down to England, Ernie became a member of the Lancashire Constabulary starting off at the old Clayton-le-Moors police station as a community “bobby”, then moving to Great Harwood, then Accrington before finally moving to Police Headquarters at Hutton prior to retiring after 30 years’ service.

After leaving the Police, Ernie spent a further 10 years with the Crown Prosecution service and then a couple more years as a Civilian Enforcement Officer before retiring to spend time with his family.

His main interests in life were looking after his family, spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, walking his own and his son’s dog and looking after his garden which was his pride and joy.

In addition he loved going on holiday with his wife Marilyn and they visited many places together over the years.

He also enjoyed watching Burnley FC with his son David and grandchildren and in his later years he loved nothing more than playing bowls up at Grange Bowling Club.

A devoted family man he sadly leaves behind his much loved son David and his partner Lisa, treasured grandchildren Sarah and her partner Tom, Katie and her husband Dominic and Tom his grandson.

He was also a dearly loved “grandad sweetie” to his great-grandchildren Henry, Elsie and Mabel.

Shaun Christopher Allen

Shaun Christopher Allen, of Clayton-le-Moors, passed away suddenly at his home on May 29, aged 64 years.

The dearly loved father of Dominik and Evie, dear father-in-law of Rachel, husband of Julia, dear brother of Terence and dear uncle to Lee, Shaun was also a well respected relative good friend to many. Football fanatic, Shaun was an avid Burnley supporter and he always looked forward to attending the matched when his working shift pattern allowed.

He was a former player for Clayton Park Rangers and he loved to tune in to match of the day.

His working life began in London as a steel fixer but following meeting his beloved Julia he made the move back to Clayton and took on various job roles and finally retired from his position as a warehouse operative and fork lift truck driver at B&M working at the Accrington and Whitebirk sites. Shaun loved his work and took great pride in his role earning the respect of his fellow colleagues.

At home, Shaun was super house proud and organised and everything had its place.

He enjoyed TV and loved to watch NCIS, Dr Who and he loved the John Wick films with his son Dom and he was eagerly awaiting the release of film number 5.

Shaun adored the sunshine and holidays were always looked forward to and his suitcase would always be packed with multiple Burnley FC tops and he would spend hours relaxing on his lounger topping up his all year round suntan.

Donations in lieu of flowers are being gratefully received in memory of Shaun, on behalf of Maundy Relief.

Funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 13 at All Saints Church, Clayton-le-Moors at 2pm followed by committal at Accrington Crematorium.
