Ian Wright looked visibly moved on TV on Saturday afternoon, as the football legend and pundit spoke out on the death of his former Arsenal teammate Kevin Campbell, which had been confirmed just hours earlier.

It was the Gunners who broke the news of the popular forward's death, at the age of 54, on Saturday morning, in a statement which read: "We are devastated to learn that our former striker Kevin Campbell has died after a short illness. Kevin was adored by everyone at the club. All of us are thinking of his friends and family at this difficult time. Rest in peace, Kevin.”

During his time with Arsenal, Kevin went onto score 60 goals, a number of them when he played alongside fellow striker Ian and, after Kevin's death was brought up on screen by an ITV colleague, clearly emotional Ian responded: "I can't really go too deep into it. It's very fresh. I only heard this morning.

"Obviously my best wishes and condolences go to his family but it's too soon for me to talk about it. Anytime I start to talk about it I well up. He meant the whole world to a lot of people, especially myself."

Tributes from all over the football world and beyond poured in for Kevin, who also played for clubs including Everton and Nottingham Forest during his career, with BBC presenter Gary Lineker also paying tribute, as he took charge of the Match of the Day broadcast for Italy's game against Albania, before pundit Alan Shearer, who played alongside Kevin as a youth player, also said a few words.
