Thundery heavy rain is set to hit our area this morning but hot weather is on its way, according to latest weather maps. The Met Office has another yellow thunder warning in place for our region.

It came into force at 11am last night (May 1) and lasts until 10am this morning. The latest local forecast predicts heavy rain showers this morning too.

But, according to our colleagues at BirminghamLive, an Iberian plume is set to bring warmer weather over the coming days. The East of England in Norwich and Peterborough as well as north of England is set to see the best of the weather.

However, the local forecast, especially for the May Day Bank Holiday weekend, suggests that Coventry and Warwickshire could see warmer weather. But it will be interspersed with showers, some that could be heavy.

The forecast for Coventry and Warwickshire as we head into the Bank Holiday weekend is as follows:

Today

Heavy, thundery rain will clear leaving a cloudy day for most. A few brighter breaks are possible, however further heavy and possibly thundery showers will develop during the day. Warm in the sunshine, especially towards the northeast. Maximum temperature 18C.

Tonight

Becoming increasingly overcast overnight with outbreaks of rain, mainly in the south and west of the region. Rain will be heavy at times and by dawn many will be misty. Minimum temperature 9C.

Friday

Overcast and turning increasingly wet for all parts with outbreaks of rain and drizzle. There is the potential for some rumbles of thunder and it will feel cooler. Maximum temperature 16C.

Outlook for Saturday to Monday

Remaining changeable over the weekend with showers of longer spells of rain at times, mixed in with some sunshine. Feeling warm in any sunshine and light winds.
