Idris Elba and Ed Sheeran support Jamal Edwards Self Belief Trust fundraiser

Idris Elba and Ed Sheeran are among the stars supporting a fundraising event for the Jamal Edwards Self Belief Trust.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine star and America's Got Talent presenter Terry Crews will host the gala in central London on 20 September, with performances from Sheeran, Jessie Ware, Max Cyrus and a DJ set from radio presenter Roman Kemp.

Edwards, who received an MBE for his services to music in 2014 after setting up the platform SBTV in 2006, died on 20 February, aged 31.

His work helped UK music acts including Dave, Stormzy, Jessie J and Sheeran on their rise to stardom.

Following his death, his mum Brenda Edwards set up the charity in his name to support causes that were close to his heart.

As well as live music, the gala will also include a star-studded auction featuring several "money-can't-buy experiences", including a meal-for-two with Luther star Elba, a private Abbey Road Studios tour and press pass access to London Fashion Week in 2023.

Tracey Parry-Knight, the trust's chief executive, said: "Jamal made it his personal mission to open doors for others to walk through.

"To help people through life, to love and to laugh.

"I'm really looking forward to this event as an opportunity to bring those who loved Jamal, from across the music and media industries, together in one room to raise vital funds for the causes that he was most passionate about.

"This is his legacy and it's sure to be an inspiring evening."

The trust is also developing a scholarship programme and back-to-work scheme for young people at risk of homelessness, in partnership with youth homelessness charity Centrepoint.

In a statement on her website, Ms Edwards said: "Jamal lived his life staying true to himself, providing a platform for all to showcase what made them special whilst encouraging all to believe in themselves to achieve their full potential."

The gala will take place at HERE at the Outernet in London on 20 September.
