People who have pirated TV shows such as Game of Thrones could receive a rather alarming letter this week from their Internet Service Providers.

Letters from SPs including Virgin Media, TalkTalk, Sky and BT are set to go out this Tuesday – aimed at customers whose connection has been used to pirate TV shows.

People who use BitTorrent to pirate television shows and films are most likely to be targeted, rather than those who use other software, Torrentfreak reports.

The letters are ‘educational’, rather than threatening, though – offering information on how to download or stream content legally.

ISPs will send the letters when they receive a Copyright Infringement notice from a company which makes the content, ISP Review reported.

It’s part of the government’s Get It Right campaign, and the letter reads: ‘Get It Right from a Genuine Site’ has got in touch with us.

‘Get it Right is a government-backed campaign acting for copyright owners who think their content’s been shared without their permission.

‘It looks like someone has been using your broadband to share copyrighted material (that means things like music, films, sport or books).

‘And as your broadband provider, we have to let you know when this happens.’
