Ilhan Omar Visits Columbia University Protesters

US Representative Ilhan Omar visited pro-Palestinian protesters at Columbia University in New York calling for divestment and a ceasefire on Thursday, April 25.

The Minnesota congresswoman’s daughter is a student at Columbia and was suspended the previous week due to her participation in the ongoing anti-war demonstration.

Footage shows Omar, a Democrat, shaking hands with protesters on the campus’s South Lawn on Thursday.

“I had the honor of seeing the Columbia University anti-war encampment firsthand,” she wrote on social media. “Contrary to right-wing attacks, these students are joyfully protesting for peace and an end to the genocide taking place in Gaza. I’m in awe of their bravery and courage.” Credit: Ilhan Omar via Storyful
