Shane Richie declared he was “broken” after facing one of his worst fears in the latest horrifying I’m A Celebrity trial.

The EastEnders actor - who is becoming something of a regular in the trial area - was left shaking after presenters Ant and Dec explained he and campmate AJ Pritchard would be sealed in chambers with their bodies below ground and their heads above it.

They would then have to grab stars using only their tongues, while castle critters rained down on them.

Richie was given the nasty news just minutes after telling Pritchard his fear of being in a challenge that made him feel claustrophobic.

He looked overwhelmed at the prospect of the Chamber of Horrors and Pritchard - apparently putting their washing up-related tension behind him - offered to go first.

However, despite his show of courage, the dancer admitted he was worried about what the trial would do to his hair.

“The curl cream is not going to survive this!” he joked, as maggots and giant mealworms were added to the boxes.

The pair also braved locusts, crickets, scorpions, rats and snakes.

It was almost too much for Richie, who panted to Ant and Dec: “I can’t do it!”

But he was determined to redeem himself after his Wicked Waterways trial earlier in the week ended up being a washout and, whimpering and wailing, kept trying to win stars.

At the end the duo had secured 11 out of 12 stars, meaning a slap up meal for camp.

Richie revealed that although he was relieved to be “back on track” he was shaken up by the whole experience.

“I’m just numb, I’m broken,” he told Pritchard.

The former Strictly star agreed, saying: “That was vile, I’m not going to be able to sleep the same tonight for sure. I’m going to be waking up every ten minutes!”

I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! continues tomorrow on ITV.
