Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo has set her sights on the Elysee Palace, announcing in the northern city of Rouen on September 12 her candidature in the upcoming French presidential election.
Hidalgo, mayor of Paris since 2014, is seen as the favorite to secure the nomination of the Socialist Party.
In a speech given on the banks of the River Seine, Hidalgo said she would use all her experience, vision and will, “to build a fairer and stronger France”.
Marine Le Pen, meanwhile, launched her campaign to unseat President Emmanuel Macron in an address to a crowd of supporters in the Cote d’Azur town of Frejus. Credit: Anne Hidalgo via Storyful
