The UK’s first major exhibition on artists’ responses to war and conflict since 9/11 will open at the Imperial War Museum this autumn.

Age of Terror: Art Since 9/11 will feature over 50 works from artists including Ai Weiwei, Grayson Perry, Jake & Dinos Chapman, Mona Hatoum and Gerhard Richter. It will be the museum’s biggest contemporary visual art exhibition to date.

The show will take 9/11 as a starting point to look at the altered public perception of conflict and how artists have been key to representing this. Amongst its themes will be a focus on state surveillance, the use of firearms and drones, as well as immediate responses to the event itself.

It will include film, sculpture, painting, photography and installations, with Ivan Navarro’s The Twin Towers light installation amongst the pieces being exhibited in the UK for the first time.

The museum, which celebrates its centenary this year, will also have a site-specific installation by James Bridle on its Atrium floor throughout the exhibition.
