Incredible moment Indian Navy pilot rescues heavily pregnant woman from floods - and she gives birth hours later

This is the incredible moment a heavily pregnant woman is rescued from devastating floods by the Indian Navy, before giving birth hours later.

The 25-year-old pregnant woman was airlifted to hospital from a flooded village in Kerala.

According to a the navy, Sajita Jabeel's waters had broken and she was in urgent need of a medical evacuation to Sanjivani Hospital in Kochi.

Just hours after her rescue, she gave birth to a baby boy.

The Indian Navy updated followers on their social media accounts with images of the mother and newborn.

In a series of tweets, a spokesperson said: "The young lady and her newborn son both are doing fine. God Bless them... Name of the Pilot in Command during this rescue operation - Cdr Vijay Verma 321Flight."

More than 160 people have been killed after flash floods hit the region.

Heavy rains over the past eight days has triggered flooding, landslides and home and road bridge collapses, severely disrupting air and train services in Kerala state, a popular tourist destination with beautiful beaches.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to visit Kerala this weekend.

The weather department forecast heavy rains until August 15, also warning of flooding in low-lying coastal areas. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the Arabian sea

The season runs from June to September.
