Incumbent Switzer wins Republican primary for District 2 county commissioner

May 7—Incumbent Vigo County District 2 Commissioner Chris Switzer defeated Anthony Rubinacci by a vote of 4,939 to 2,659 to capture the Republican nomination in Tuesday's primary election, according to unofficial results.

Switzer will face Democrat Courtney Weger in the November general election. Weger defeated Dillon Moss by a vote of 2,904 to 2,204 to win the Democrat Party nomination.

"I'm really proud of the work me and my team did over the last three or four months," Switzer said. He hopes to continue that momentum into the fall election as he seeks a second term.

"I think we're doing a great job in Vigo County as a group of commissioners," he said.

He believes a group of leaders in the community are collectively doing a good job and moving the city and county forward, he said.

Of his opponent, Switzer said, "Anthony did a great job campaigning. He's a young guy. I think he's going to be a great leader in the local Republican Party at some point."

Rubinacci congratulated Switzer on his victory.

"It's clear the residents of Vigo County see him as a trusted leader" in moving the community forward, he said.

Rubinacci said he looks forward to continued progress and positive changes for Vigo County in the future.
