Injured man found in Strabane with knife wounds in early hours, police working to find out where stabbing happened

An injured man found in the early hours of this morning in a Co Tyrone town is believed to have been stabbed, police say.

The man, aged in his 20s, was found in the Melvin Road area of Strabane shortly before 1.40am but police believe the stab wounds were inflicted elsewhere.

A spokesperson for the PSNI said police are still trying to establish "exactly where the stabbing occurred".

In a statement, a PSNI spokesperson said: "Police are appealing for information following a report of a stabbing in Strabane in the early hours of this morning, Sunday 12th May.

"A report was received shortly before 1.40am stating that a man, aged in his 20s, was found with injuries believed to have been caused by a knife. He was taken to hospital for treatment to injuries, which are not believed to be life threatening."

The spokesperson continued: "At this stage, we are trying to establish exactly where the stabbing occurred in the town. The injured man was located in the Melvin Road area, but we believe he may have been injured elsewhere.

"We are appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time and saw anything, or who may have dashcam, CCTV or other video footage. The number to call is 101 quoting reference 157 of 12/05/24.
