Injuries Reported After Bridge Collapses in Taiwan

Nanfangao Bridge in Su’ao Township, in Taiwan’s northern Yilan County, collapsed on October 1, the region’s Coast Guard reported.

A number of people were injured when the bridge collapsed on top of “several fishing boats” and a tanker truck fell into the water, the Coast Guard said.

The driver of the tanker was rescued and sent to hospital, while authorities continued work on freeing others trapped in the rubble.

“There are still injured people under the bridge that rescue units are trying to free,” a translated statement from the Coast Guard read.
