Inquests to open into deaths of three teens killed in Penkridge horror crash

Inquests into the deaths of three teenagers killed in a horror crash in Penkridge were due to be opened this morning (Monday, June 10). Dafydd Hûw Craven-Jones, 18, and Morgan Jones, 17, who were both from Wrexham, died at the Cannock Road scene on May 25.

Sophie Bates, 17, from Stafford, died in hospital three days later. A coroner was expected to open the inquests into the deaths of the three teens from 9.30am at Stoke Civic Centre, StokeonTrentLive reports.

Brooke Varley, 17, from Shropshire, was the sole survivor of the Ford Ka crash. She was rushed to hospital following the collision but has since been discharged.

The teenager bravely paid tribute to her friends in a statement released through Staffordshire Police. She said: "I wanted to write a tribute for my three friends Sophie, Morgan and Daf. I am so upset to have lost such amazing people from my life."

Brooke continued: "Sophie was the kindest person who lived her life to the fullest. She is my inspiration to get better and do everything she didn’t get a chance to do. She will forever be in my heart.

"Morgan was one of the funniest people I know. He was always respectful, kind and sweet. He always looked out for me.

"Daf had a kind soul and loved his friends. I’m thinking of their families at this sad time and everyone who is affected by this tragic incident."

Staffordshire Police has continued to appeal for witnesses following the collision. Anyone with information was urged to call 101, quoting incident number 813 of May 25.
